As stated in the “About Me” section, Canadian history was originally out of my comfort zone but I slowly started to open up to the idea of it. I think it was mainly out of my comfort zone because I walked in with very little knowledge of the subject and what it would contain. The reading logs we were asked to write each week helped to open my mind to the subject matter more, I feel as if those were not included in the course, I would not have comprehended the material as well.

This course taught me many interesting topics about the people who lived in Pre-Confederation Canada as well as the different events that took place. It showed me that there isn’t a line that defines Canadian and American history because it can happen anywhere, at any time. For example, I thought slavery only happened in American however, throughout Reading log #5 we read and wrote about slavery and resistance that took place in Pre-Confederation Canada.

Overall, this class opened up my eyes to what history is and how one “does” history. It’s not something someone thinks about constantly, however, these questions made us think about the different aspects of history and what it takes in order to be a historian.
